Hoosiers Put Away Terrapins in Four Sets

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After dropping the first set of the match, the Indiana volleyball team came back to win the next three and dispatched of Maryland, 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday at University Gym.
Before a crowd of 1,057 the Hoosiers (11-4, 1-3) won their Big Ten home opener with gritty play, summed up by a set point in the third set with the match tied 1-1.
Junior Megan Tallman served the ball into play and it was attack back by Maryland, nearly dropping close to the net on the Hoosiers side.
Tallman sacrificed her body and dove to the ground putting out a hand to put the ball back onto the Terrapins side. Not only did she succeed in keeping it in play, Tallman found the back of the court for a kill, to give the Hoosiers a decisive 2-1 lead in the match.
The Hoosiers got help from a variety of spots in the victory, including a career-high 15 kills from junior Mallory Waggoner. Junior Jazzmine McDonald continued her efficient hitting with 10 kills and no errors on 13 attempts for a .769 hitting percentage.
Senior Courtney Harnish and junior Taylor Lebo combined for 26 digs and Harnish passed 900 career digs. Tallman tallied 42 assists to go along with five digs, three kills and three blocks. As a team the Hoosiers totaled 13 blocks in the match.
Up next the Hoosiers continued conference play with a match against Rutgers on Saturday Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET at University Gym.
