BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19) win over Rutgers on Saturday at University Gym.

The Indiana defense came through with 68 digs as three players reached double-digits, led by senior captain Courtney Harnish with 19 digs. Senior Kyndall Merritt (16) and junior Taylor Lebo (14) helped the Hoosiers defense and IU tallied 10 team blocks, led by junior Jazzmine McDonald with five.
Junior setter Megan Tallman set a career-high with seven kills to go along with 48 assists, four digs, three blocks and one of the Hoosiers six service aces.

In set two the Hoosier hit their highest percentage of the match at .256 with 19 kills by seven different players. Despite the efficient offensive attack, Indiana found themselves down 24-20 with a Rutgers set point upcoming.
The Hoosiers came up with back-to-back kills and a Rutgers attack error brought the set to 24-23 and forced Rutgers to call a timeout. After the break junior Allison Hammond took a ball from Tallman and slammed down a kill to tie it 24-24.
Rutgers gave the Hoosiers a set point with an attack error and Tallman converted an attack for a kill to give the Hoosiers a 26-24 set victory and even the match, 1-1.

In the fourth set Indiana and Rutgers combined for 15 attack errors and four service errors, but the Hoosiers tallied 14 kills compared to six from Rutgers.
The Hoosiers led by as many as seven at 20-13, but Rutgers narrowed that lead to four after an Indiana attack error put the score at 22-18. The teams traded points as Indiana continued to lead, 23-19.
A kill from Hammond pushed it to match point and a Rutgers attack error gave the set and the match to Indiana.
The combination of the Indiana attack with 60 kills and defense with 68 digs and 18 total block assists carried the Hoosiers to the 3-1 victory.
Up next it's rivalry week as the Hoosiers will host Purdue on Wednesday Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. for the Monon Spike. IU will then travel to Purdue for a match on Saturday Oct. 10 at 8:00 p.m. in West Lafayette.
