Hoosier Drop Match Against No. 18 Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Jessica Leish led the Indiana volleyball team with a career-high 11 kills, but the Hoosiers fell in three sets to No. 18 Illinois, 25-27, 23-25, 15-25.
Senior Amelia Anderson, who was honored prior to the match for reaching 1,000 career kills posted nine kills in the match and now ranks 18th in school history with 1,017 career kills.
Senior captain Courtney Harnish tallied six digs to move into 12th on the Hoosiers all-time list and now has 983 for her career.
After Illinois took the opening set by a narrow 27-25 margin, the Hoosiers matched the Fighting Illini point for point to a 7-7 tie. Illinois then opened up a 15-10 lead using an 8-3 run.
The Hoosiers (12-9, 2-7) hit .367 for the set and closed to within 21-20 on an Illinois attack error. After an Illinois timeout the Fighting Illini scored on an IU service error and went up 22-20. Anderson brought the Hoosiers back to within one with a kill to make it 22-21, by Illinois responded with a kill of their own to go back up 23-21.
After an Indiana timeout Illinois gave the Hoosiers a point on a service error, scored on a kill, but committed another service error to bring the Hoosiers within one at 24-23. An Indiana service error gave the set to Illinois and they went up 2-0 in the match.
In set three the Hoosiers committed eight errors against only two for Illinois and the Fighting Illinois won the third set to take the match.
Up next the Hoosiers host Northwestern on Saturday Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
