Hoosiers Roll Past Wildcats, 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team hit over a .300 hitting percentage and swept Northwestern (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) on Saturday at University Gym.
Senior Amelia Anderson led the way for the Hoosiers connecting on 12 kills on 19 swings and one error for an individual .579 hitting percentage. Anderson went over 300 kills for the season, at 306 now, which is six less then her total from last season with 10 matches to play in the regular season.
Senior middle blocker Awele Nwaeze hit .500 with seven kills and six blocks and junior Jazzmine McDonald added nine kills. Junior setter Megan Tallman tallied 34 assists and defensively senior captain Courtney Harnish collected 13 digs.
McDonald paced the Hoosiers (13-9, 3-7) in the first set with five kills and IU jumped out to a 6-4 lead on the Wildcats. After the Hoosiers extended that lead to three at 11-8 the Wildcats (12-9, 4-6) stayed within two until committing an attack error late in the set to give Indiana a 22-19 lead. McDonald gave the Hoosiers set point with a kill to make it 24-21 and Northwestern hit it out of bounds as the Hoosiers took set one, 25-21.
In set two the Hoosiers hit .375 with Anderson going a perfect five-for-five and held Northwestern to a .143 hitting percentage and only eight kills in the set. Indiana went up 10-7 in the set and never let the Wildcats get any closer then three, opening up an 18-12 advantage on a kill by Anderson. Indiana scored five of the final seven points in the set and went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-16 set two victory.
In the third set the Hoosiers got kills from six different players, including three from Tallman. Indiana hit .270 in the set with 15 kills and closed out the match with a 25-21 set three win.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for a matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who are currently at the top of the Big Ten standings. That match is slated for Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
