Hoosiers Fall Against Purdue

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team dropped a three-set match to No. 19 Purdue, 22-25, 14-25, 18-25 on Wednesday at University Gym.
Junior Allison Hammond led the Hoosiers with 11 kills. Junior setter Megan Tallman tallied 29 assists and senior libero Courtney Harnish recorded 16 digs.
Her with 29 assists Tallman moved into eighth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career assists and now has 2,388.
The Hoosiers (12-5, 2-3) and Boilermakers (14-2, 5-0) went toe to toe in the first set as each team hit well over .300. IU hit .343 with 16 kills but came up short, 25-22.
The Hoosiers could not carry on that momentum into the second set and fell behind early as Purdue hit their highest percentage of any set (.367) and won set two 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Indiana made 18 errors in sets two and three combined compared to five errors by Purdue. Junior Taylor Lebo kept the Hoosiers within striking distance in set three with back-to-back service aces, but the Boilermakers took set three 25-18 to win the match.
Lebo tallied three aces for the match and senior Amelia Anderson contributed eight kills to raise her career total to 971, which ranks 18th on the Hoosiers all-time list for career kills.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette for a second matchup with Purdue on Saturday Oct. 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
