Hoosiers Drop Match at No. 18 Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Senior Chante George and junior Allison Hammond led the Hoosiers with nine kills apiece and three Hoosiers tallied double-digit digs, but the Hoosiers fell on the road at No. 18 Illinois on Saturday at Huff Hall.
Illinois won the match in three sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) and Indiana moves to 15-15 on the season and 5-13 in Big Ten matches.
Junior setter Megan Tallman posted 37 assists and moved past 2,800 career assists with 2,811 now for her career. She needs 30 assists to move into seventh-place on the Hoosiers all-time list for career assists.
Senior libero Courtney Harnish tallied 15 digs and junior Taylor Lebo (13) and senior Kyndall Merritt (10) also reached double-digit digs.
The Hoosiers opened the match with an 8-4 lead in set one, but seven attack errors allowed the Fighting Illini to comeback and closeout the first set 25-23.
After an opening set with nine ties and three lead changes the second set was controlled by Illinois as they hit .423 compared to a .121 hitting percentage by the Hoosiers.
In set three Indiana made nine of their 24 attack errors in the match but fought back to get within two late in the third set at 21-19. An Illinois kill and Indiana attack error pushed the Illinois lead to 23-19 and another Illinois kill and Indiana attack error combination lifted the Fighting Illini to the set and match victory.
Up next the Hoosiers close out the season with two home matches. Indiana will host Michigan on Wednesday Nov. 25 at 6:00 p.m. ET and welcome Minnesota on Saturday Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
