Hoosiers Drop Match Against Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Amelia Anderson led the Indiana volleyball team with 11 kills, but the Hoosiers fell in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) to Iowa on Wednesday night at University Gym.
Senior Courtney Harnish, who was honored prior to the match for recording her 1,000th dig, tallied 13 digs and now has 1,028 for her career.
The Indiana defense forced Iowa into 15 attack errors, including seven blocks. Senior Awele Nwaeze led the Hoosiers (13-12, 3-10) with five blocks and junior Megan Tallman contributed four blocks. Tallman also posted 26 assists.
After Iowa took the first set, set two was played very closely with 12 ties, including a kill from Anderson to bring the score to 17-17. Iowa then used a 5-0 run to take control of the set and went on to win set two, 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In set three, Iowa got out to a 4-1 lead, but an Anderson kill put the Hoosiers within one at 8-7. Iowa served one of their 11 aces for the match and eventually got some separation with a 12-8 lead. The Hoosiers got within two at 17-15 on a kill from Allison Hammond, then Iowa scored three in a row to go up 20-15 and won set 3, 25-20.
Up next the Hoosiers will host Nebraska on Saturday Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
