Hoosiers with Strong Day at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Indiana women's tennis team picked up four singles wins and four doubles victories on day one of the WMU Super Challenge hosted by Western Michigan on Friday.
IU's Sarah Baron and Kim Schmider teamed up to go 2-0 in doubles on the day to earn a spot in the semifinals of the main doubles draw. The duo downed Sena Suswam and Ariana Rodriguez of Louisville, 6-1, in the round of 16 before downing Natalie Looney and Carin Runefelt of Iowa, 7-5.
Indiana's Madison Appel and Sarah McClean won their first doubles match of the day before falling in the quarterfinals. Paula Gutierrez and Danielle Wolf followed suit winning their first match before falling short in their second.
In singles play, McLean won in convincing fashion over Marquette's Erin Gebes in the top flight, 6-2, 6-0. Schmider fell in the first set before rebounding to win her Flight B singles match over Diana Tokar of Marquette, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Appel, also playing in Flight B, downed Louisville's Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-3.
IU's fourth singles win of the day came from Wolf in Fligh C who topped Aleeza Kanner of Marquette in consecutive sets, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
The Hoosiers will return to the court on Saturday in Kalamazoo at 8 a.m. ET.
