
IU Impressive on Second Day of Hoosierland Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's and women's swimming teams had impressive showings on the second day of the Hoosierland Invitational on Friday at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington.
Preliminary races on Friday were long course meter events, while the finals were conducted in short course yards.
In the first final of the night, the Indiana women's team of Marie Chamberlain, Laura Morley, Olivia Barker and Grace Vertigans won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.12. On the men's side, the team of Bob Glover, Tanner Kurz, Max Irwin and Ali Khalafalla had a great race, earning a NCAA Qualifying time at 1:25.25 – the second-fastest time in IU history.
The Hooiser women had a race to remember in the "A" final of the 400 IM. Sam Lisy led IU, who swept the top-five spots in the race with each racer notching a NCAA B cut. Lisy won with a season-best time of 4:11.27, while Bailey Pressey was second in 4:12.86.
Reagan Cook took third with a career-best time of 4:14.66 that ranks her 11th all-time, while Shelly Drozda's career-best mark of 4:17.04 puts her 15th in Indiana history. Rounding out the Hoosier effort was Rachel Matsumura, who ranks 20th all-time with her career-best time of 4:19.22.
For the men, IU's Grayson Smith touched first in the "A" final with a career-best and NCAA B cut time of 3:50.64. Smith now ranks as the 10th-fastest 400 IM swimmer in Indiana history.
In the 100 butterfly "A" final, IU's Gia Dalesandro won with a season-best and NCAA B cut time of 52.58. Olivia Barker was second for IU with a career-best mark of 53.79 – ranking her the sixth-fastest 100 fly swimmer in school history.
On the men's side, Oliver Patrouch won the "A" final for the Hoosiers, clocking in with a career-best and NCAA B cut time of 47.84, which ranks him as the 10th fastest swimmer in the event in Indiana history.
In the women's 200 freestyle "A" final, the Hoosiers had four swimmer earn NCAA B cuts, led by Haley Lips in second place with a season-best time of 1:45.42. Gracea Vertigans was third with a career-best time of 1:46.46 that ranks her as the ninth-fastest swimmer in the event at IU.
Stephanie Marchuk was fourth with a career-best time of 1:46.70 that ranks her as the 11th-fastest IU swimmer in the event in history, while Delaney Barnard finished with a season-best time of 1:47.48.
Jackson Miller won the men's 200 freestyle with a season-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:35.17. Teammate Max Irwin was second with a career-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:36.53 – ranking him as the 12th fastest 200 freestyle swimmer in IU history.
The Hoosier men had a great showing in the "A" final of the 100 breaststroke, with IU sweeping the top-four with all NCAA B cut times. Tanner Kurz touched the wall first with a career-best time of 53.07, reaffirming his place as the third-fastest 100 breaststroker in school history. Cody Taylor was second with a season-best time of 54.32.
Levi Brock placed third with a career-best time of 54.39, while Sam Apa clocked in with a career-best mark of 54.55. With their respective times, Brock and Apa now rank as the 10th and 11th fastest 100 breaststroke swimmers in school history.
In the women's 100 breaststroke "A" final, IU's Laura Morley placed second with a career-best time of 1:03.22 – ranking her the 14th fastest 100 breaststroker in school history.

On the men's side, Bob Glover won the "A" final of the 100 backstroke with a career-best and NCAA B cut time of 46.55, ranking him as the fourth-fastest swimmer in the event in school history. Joseph Lane now ranks as the seventh-fastest 100 backstroker in Indiana history after placing second with a season-best and NCAA B cut mark of 47.96.
In the 800 freestyle relay, the Hoosier women's team of Delaney Barnard, Gia Dalesandro, Shelly Drozda and Haley Lips won with a time of 7:12.19. On the men's side, the Hoosier team of Max Irwin, Jackson Miller, Grayson Smith and John Winck won with a time of 6:32.56.
In the LCM prelims of the Hoosierland Invitational on Friday, Indiana had an impressive showing, recording 12 Olympic Trials qualifying times.
Notching qualifying times for the IU women were Bailey Pressey (400 IM, 4:53.28), Gia Dalesandro (100 fly, 1:00.35), Olivia Barker (100 fly, 1:00.39), Stephanie Marchuk (200 free, 2:02.17), Haley Lips (200 free, 2:01.67) and Marie Chamberlain (100 back, 1:03.04).
Recording qualifying times for the Hoosier men were Jackson Miller (200 free, 1:50.95), Tanner Kurz (100 breast, 1:03.01), Bob Glover (100 back, 55.50), Ali Khalafalla (100 back, 56.72), Joseph Lane (100 back, 57.05) and Ryan Gordon (100 back, 57.07).
In the 100 LC butterfly, Ali Khalafalla won his heat with a time of 55.30, ranking him fifth all-time in school history.
