CHICAGO – Indiana University freshman swimmer Lilly King was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday, the conference office announced.
The league honor is the second this year for King, who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on November 11.
This past weekend at the AT&T Winter National Championships, King won the national championship in the 200 breaststroke and the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke.
King not only broke the Indiana school record in the 200 LCM breaststroke, but she shattered Amanda Beard's 15-year-old U.S. National Age Group record in the 17-18 age division with her mark of 2:24.47. Beard's record was the oldest in the age group before King broke it on Saturday night. The time also vaulted King up to 19th in the world rankings.
King had a tremendous performance in the championship final of the 100 LC breaststroke, touching the wall in a school record time of 1:06.43, getting just edged out for gold by Russian world champion Yulia Efimova.
