SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Indiana improved to 2-1 on the weekend after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay in their final game in Santa Clara, Calif., 10-4.
Rebecca Gerrity led all scorers with three goals in the game. Five other Hoosiers got on the board -- Alexis Jones (2), Candyce Schroeder (2), Kelly Matthews, Sarah Myers and Sarah Young.
Schroeder netted the first goal of the game, but Monterey Bay followed with two goals in three minutes to take the lead 2-1. Matthews would even the score with 34 seconds left in the first quarter.
Schroeder would score her second goal of the game just a minute and half into the second period. The Otters would tie the score before the half, though, at three apiece.
In the third quarter, Indiana would score four straight goals in two and half minutes to go up 7-3. Gerrity scored the first and second of those four goals just 42 seconds apart. The third quarter would end with IU leading CSUMB, 7-4.
Gerrity would add her third goal and Jones would score two to extend the Hoosiers lead to 10-4. This is how the game would end as the Hoosiers pull to 6-6 on the year.
