COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Karlee McBride scored 13 second-half points as IU pulled within four with just under nine minutes to play before No. 5/5 Maryland held on for an 83-72 win in the XFINITY Center on Thursday night.
McBride finished the game with a career-high 18 points to lead Indiana. Larryn Brooks added 13 points for the Hoosiers as Tyra Buss and Alexis Gassion each tallied 10 points.
Maryland led 14-7 early on before back-to-back 3-point field goals from Gassion and Brooks for Indiana made it a 14-13 score at the 13:08 mark. The Terps later increased that lead to six, but IU's McBride went to work scoring on a jumper and then a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions as Maryland led 24-21.
At that point, the Terrapins outscored the Hoosiers 14-4 over the next 3:04 to build their biggest lead of the half, 38-25. Three IU free throws from Jess Walter and Amanda Cahill and then a Cahill 3-point field goal trimmed the deficit to seven.
A later Cahill layup made it a 40-33 score before Maryland scored seven points in the final 1:10 of the half, including a Laurin Mincy 3-pointer as the clock expired to give the Terps a 47-35 advantage heading into the locker room.
Maryland looked to take control out of the break building a 60-44 advantage. But McBride then led Indiana back into the game.
McBride nailed a trey before Walter connected from beyond the arc to make it a 10-point deficit with 11:47 on the clock. McBride then scored eight-straight points for the Hoosiers to cap a 14-2 Indiana run to cut the lead to four, 62-58, with 8:57 remaining.
Indiana would not get any closer as Maryland built its lead to as much at 15 points down the stretch before holding off the Hoosiers for good.
McBride shot 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and added three boards. She has now scored in double figures in 12 games this year.
IU outrebounded the Terps, 37-36, as the Hoosier bench outscored Maryland's, 27-4.
Indiana will wrap up the regular season at Rutgers on Sunday, March 1. That game will tip from the Rutgers Athletic Center at 2 p.m. ET.
