ORLANDO, Fla. - The Indiana softball team dropped the first game of its Sunday slate to Georgetown, 7-2. CaraMia Tsirigos and Brianna Meyer scored both Indiana runs on a pair of solo home runs.
After a rain delay pushed back the scheduled meeting between the Hoosiers (3-15) and Hoyas, the teams squared of in the final day of the Citrus Classic II.
Georgetown (6-5) got an early lead after four straight lead-off singles and an error by Mena Fulton made it 3-0 in the first. The Hoyas added another run on an RBI single by Samantha Giovanniello to increase their lead to 4-0 in the top of the second.
The Hoosiers got on the board in the bottom of the frame after Tsirigos stepped up and hit her second solo shot in as many games. The homer was Tsirigos’ third of the season.
However, Georgetown quickly responded with an RBI single by Giovanniello in the fourth inning before plating two more in the fifth to give the Hoyas a 7-1 lead.
Meyer, who also doubled in the fourth inning, hit her first home run of the season on a two-out knock to center field to make it 7-2.
Georgetown pitcher Megan Hyson threw a complete game, surrendering only two runs on five hits while striking out eight.
The Hoosiers return to the diamond at 1:30 p.m. as they take on Miami (Oh) in the final game of the Citrus Classic II.
