Taylor Walsh: 2nd Place Finish at 165 lbs. (All-American)
ST. LOUIS - Senior Taylor Walsh capped off his Hoosier career as an All-American with a national runner-up finish at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Scottrade Center.
Before a crowd of over 18,000 people No. 6 seed Walsh (38-6) came up on the short end of a 14-7 decision at 165 lbs. to defending champion and No. 1 seed Alex Dieringer (34-0) from Oklahoma State.
Walsh finished his career with 132 wins, which ranks fourth on the Indiana all-time list. Walsh holds the Indiana record for career pins with 69.
Walsh earned a spot in the final with an upset of No. 3 seed Isaac Jordan in the quarterfinal and a win against No. 15 seed Ethan Ramos in the semifinal.
Walsh represented the first Hoosiers since Angel Escobedo in 2008 to reach a championship final. Escobedo was the national champion at 125 lbs. in 2008.
The All-America honor is the 79th in IU school history by the 52nd different student-athlete.
