UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Indiana fell on the road in Big Ten play at Penn State on Friday afternoon, 4-3.
No. 71 PSU (7-9, 4-2) struck first winning the No. 2 doubles match, but No. 43 IU (11-5, 2-2) rebounded by winning at No. 3 with Alecia Kauss and Sarah Baron and then at No. 1 with Kim Schmider and Katie Klyczek to clinch the doubles point.
The Nittany Lions then used singles play to seize momentum. Penn State won each of the first four matches that were completed in singles, all in straight sets to clinch the team the win. It marked PSU’s third straight victory in conference play.
Indiana’s Klyczek had to earn her win in the No. 1 position. She fell in a tiebreak in the first set before taking a tiebreaker in the second set against PSU’s Katia Bilk. Klyczek then shut the door in the final set to win by a 6-7 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-4 final tally.
Freshman Sarah Baron was also victorious for the Hoosiers as she downed Jacqueline Zuhse at No. 6, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (5).
The Hoosiers will next take on Ohio State on the road in Columbus on Sunday, March 29 at Noon ET.
