Hoosiers Fall at No. 11 Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 41 Indiana men's tennis team dropped its first of two road matches this weekend with a 4-0 defeat against the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center.
The Buckeyes won the No. 1 doubles match quickly as their duo, ranked No. 6 in the country won 8-1. The Hoosiers (14-9, 3-4) battled back with an 8-6 win from Chris Essick and Stefan Lugonjic at the No. 2 position. Ohio State took the No. 3 doubles match 8-5 to win the doubles point.
Featuring a lineup of three players ranked in singles, the Buckeyes won two matches at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0) and No. 2 (6-1, 6-1) to build a 3-0 advantage. Ohio State got its fourth point at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Senior Sven Lalic won his first set 6-1 at the No. 3 position and after falling 7-5 in his first set, freshman Raheel Manji came back to take a 3-1 lead in his second set. At No. 1 junior Sam Monette dropped his first set 6-3, but forced a tiebreak in the second set, which did not finish before Ohio State clinched the match.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to State College, Pa., for a match against No. 50 Penn State on Sunday April 12 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
