Sunday Surge Leaves Hoosiers in Third Place

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Hoosiers posted the second-best team score of the day on Sunday, a 4-over par round of 288, which resulted in a third place finish at the NYX Hoosier Invitational on their home course.
The 867 (+15) team score for the tournament is the best of the season for the Hoosiers and it left them six shots behind Cincinnati in second place and 14 shots behind Wisconsin, the team champion in their first appearance in the tournament.
Max Kollin, a junior, posted his best individual finish of the season, as he tied for 11th with a score of 214 after a final round of 1-under par 70. It also marked his best tournament finish since a T10 finish at last year's NYX Hoosier Invitational.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament at home, freshman Brendon Doyle was just one shot behind Kollin with a score of 215 and tied for 14th - his best tournament finish of the season. He also carded a final round of 1-under par 70 to help the Hoosiers surge up the scoreboard.
The third Hoosier to finish inside the Top 20 was sophomore Keegan Vea, who checked in tied for 17th with a score of 217. It's his second finish inside the Top 20 after he placed second at the Rocket Individual Invite back in October 2014.
Matthew Weber came in with a total score of 221 (T37) and Nicholas Grubnich was tied for 66th with his score of 228 for the tournament.
There were also four players competing as individuals for IU and senior Andrew Fogg paced them with a score of 222 (T41) for the tournament. Will Seger was next with his score 226 (T57) followed by Andrew Havill, who tied for 60th at 227. Another freshman, Christian Fairbanks, rounded out the score for the Hoosier contingent with his three-round score of 231.
Indiana will conclude the regular season at the Boilermaker Intercollegiate next weekend at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
