1V8 Named Big Ten Boat of the Week

CHICAGO -- The Big Ten Conference announced that the Indiana First Varsity 8 was named its Boat of the Week on Tuedsay. The 15th-ranked Hoosiers defeated No. 7 Michigan in Ann Arbor over the weekend, the first-ever win for IU over Michigan at 1V8.
The boat was made up of Karly Kikkert, Alice Wright, Meradith Dickensheets, Madison Treser, Alexandra Morrison, Emily Barber, Alexandra Eaton, Rebecca Brougher and Asja Zero.
The last Boat of the Week honor for Indian went to the Varsity 4 on April 29, 2014, and the last time the 1V8 landed the weekly honor from the conference office was March 27, 2012. It was the second of back-to-back weeks earning the Boat of the Week accolades for the 1V8 that season.
The Hoosiers posted a time of 6:28.90 against Michigan on Saturday, beating the Wolverines by just over three seconds in the morning session. Then in the afternoon, Indiana improved their time to 6:22.80 to beat Michigan State by nearly 20 seconds.
Indiana is at the Clemson Invitational this week and will return home to Lake Lemon next Friday and Saturday (April 24 & 25) for the Dale England Cup.
