Hoosiers Travel to CWPA Rival Michigan This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -The Indiana women’s water polo team will travel to the University of Michigan for a CWPA game against their biggest rivals in the conference, the Michigan Wolverines, on April 4. The No. 13 Hoosiers (13-10, 1-0) will face the No. 17 Wolverines (11-10, 2-0) at 12:00 pm ET at the Canham Natatorium on the Michigan campus.
Due to a scheduling change, the Hoosiers were out of action the previous weekend, which has given them two weeks to prepare for one of their most important conference games of the season. The Hoosiers had a strong start to conference play during the Fluid Five weekend, beating Hartwick College 15-9 in Bloomington.
According to senior Rebecca Gerrity, this weekend will present a different challenge than their previous CWPA game.
“It’s always a really heated battle,” Gerrity said regarding IU’s infamous clashes with Michigan. “It’s often really close. Going up to Michigan to play is really exciting. They have a loud environment, but I think we’re ready.”
The last time these two teams met was in an out-of-conference contest during the Fluid Five weekend. Indiana emerged victorious with a thrilling 9-8 win in Bloomington. The Wolverines lead the all-time series with 43 wins to Indiana’s 20, but the Hoosiers have won the last five meetings between the schools.
Most recently, the Wolverines won 20-2 over CWPA opponent Notre Dame College. Their other conference victory is an 11-6 win over Hartwick College, which took place in Bloomington at the Fluid Five.
