BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Despite an impressive complete game performance by senior pitcher Lora Olson, the Hoosiers dropped game two of Wednesday's doubleheader to Purdue, 4-3.
Olson allowed just two earned runs on five hits in her seventh complete game of the year.
Neither team was able to get much going offensively until Purdue's CJ Parsons scored after an Indiana fielding error allowed Mary Gooding to reach.
The Hoosiers responded quickly as sophomore Erin Lehman hit a pop-up single to shallow centerfield to score freshman Rebecca Blitz, who knocked a single of her own to get on base.
After a two-run home run by Kayla Hampton put the Boilermakers back on top, Indiana once again answered as sophomore CaraMia Tsirigos singled to center to plate junior Kelsey Dotson. One batter later, freshmanMena Fulton scored junior Michelle Huber on a sacrifice fly.
Both pitchers shined in the fifth and sixth inning,s as neither team recorded a hit in the two frames. However, the Boilermakers led off the seventh inning with a single by Maya Hughes before Hampton reached on an Indiana error. Following a sacrifice bunt by Parsons, the Hoosiers picked up the second out of the inning on a close play at the plate on Hughes. However, an RBI single to left by Alyssa Koorsen scored Lexi Valone in what would turn out to be the game-winner.
Due to the timing of the rescheduled games, the contests will not count as conference games and will not affect either team's conference record.
Indiana wraps up home play this weekend as the Hoosiers play host to Michigan State in a three-game set beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
