COLUMBUS, Ohio - Behind five Ohio State home runs, the Indiana softball team dropped game two of the series in five innings on Saturday afternoon, 17-2.
Buckeye Erika Leonard recorded two homers in the contest on her way to collecting five RBI.
The Hoosiers (17-37, 7-13 Big Ten) looked like they were going to strike early as junior Kassi Farmer earned a one-out walk in the first. Senior Shannon Cawley then singled to left to put two runners on with just one out. However, a pair of fly outs ended the threat. Cawley finished the day 2-for-3.
After Ohio State's Cammi Prantl hit a one-out double to right center with one out, she scored the first run of the game on an Indiana throwing error to make it 1-0 in favor of the Buckeyes (28-21, 11-11 Big Ten) after the first frame.
Juniors Michelle Huber and Katelyn Conenna led off the second inning with a pair of walks to again put two Indiana runners on board. After a pair of fly outs, freshman Rebecca Blitz hit her second career triple to left to plate Huber and Conenna to give Indiana a 2-1 lead.
The Buckeyes took back the lead for good in bottom of the inning after an RBI double by Alex Bayne and a three-run home run by Caitlin Conrad made it 5-2. Ohio State broke the game open in the third frame after the Buckeyes scored 10 runs on three homers, two bases-loaded walks and a two-run double to increase the lead to 15-2.
The fifth Buckeye home run of the game came in the fourth inning off the bat of Leonard, who also smacked one in the inning prior.
Indiana and Ohio State will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon as they do battle at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network.
