2015 NCAA ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP |
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University women's rowing team will make their second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships after earning an at-large bid on Tuesday. The NCAA Championships will take place May 29-31 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California.
"I think being selected for a second straight year confirms that we were not a 'one-hit wonder'," Indiana head coach Steve Peterson said. "It also confirms that the work that we are doing and what we are doing it for is actually paying off. So we are excited to be a part of the NCAA Championship and we look forward to competing in Sacramento in two weeks."
Indiana is seeded 10th in the First Varsity 8 race, 16th in the Second Varsity 8 and 16th in the First Varsity 4 race. The Hoosiers are one of four teams representing the Big Ten in this year's NCAA Championship. They join Ohio State, this year's Big Ten Champion and the reigning NCAA Champion, along with Michigan and Wisconsin.
The Hoosiers' First Varsity 8 boat will face familiar competition in their first heat, which takes place on Friday, May 29. They will race against fellow Big Ten Championship grand finalists Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan, along with AAC member Central Florida, to open their championship campaign.
The Hoosiers matched last season's record Big Ten Championship performance with their second fourth-place finish in as many seasons. Indiana's First Varsity 8 received a medal for their finish in their grand final race, the third Big Ten Championship medal in program history (1V8 - 2014, 2015; 2V8 - 2014).
The 2015 NCAA Rowing Championships will commence on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. ET with the First Varsity 8 races. You can find ticket information for the NCAA Rowing Championships here.
Last year, in their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships, Indiana placed 11th as a team. The 1V8 boat placed 10th, the 1V4 boat came in ninth and the 2V8 posted a 14th place finish last year.
