1V8 SPRING RECORD
The First Varsity 8 boat for the Hoosiers has been impressive this spring. The crew has compiled a 22-2 record in three competitive events. The record includes victories over No. 7 Michigan, No. 12 Texas and No. 19 Notre Dame.
LEAVING A MARK
The 1V8 boat's win over No. 7 Michigan at the Big Ten Double Dual in Ann Arbor marked the first-ever win over Michigan in any boat. The 2V8 boat also defeated the Wolverines. By virtue of the win over UM, the Hoosiers 1V8 crew was named Big Ten Boat of the Week, making it the first time since 2012 that an IU 1V8 boat took home the top boat of the week.
LAST YEAR AT BIG TENS
For the first time in program history, the Hoosiers had the 1V8 and 2V8 crews medal at the Big Ten Championships. The 1V8 boat finished third behind Ohio State and Michigan while the 2V8 boat also placed third behind the same two teams.
As a team, IU finished fourth, which was good for its best-ever finish at the conference regatta.
ON TO THE NCAAS
After its best-ever finish at the Big Ten Championship, Indiana earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Championships. But they didn't rest there, as they would go on to place 11th.
INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES
While the team had a banner year in 2014, a number of individuals also gained some notoriety. Meradith Dickensheets, then a junior, was named First Team Pocock All-American - the first to be named first team in program history.
Then-freshman Alice Wright was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year after she came in and joined the 1V8 boat right from the start in the stroke seat, propelling it to the best season in school history.
Head Coach Steve Peterson was named National Coach of the Year and his staff was named National Staff of the Year.
