Sudfeld selected as player speaker at 44th Kickoff Luncheon
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Defensive lineman Adarius Rayner, offensive lineman Jason Spriggs and quarterback Nate Sudfeld will represent Indiana Football at the 2015 Big Ten Football Media Days and Kickoff Luncheon presented by Allstate and BMW. Media Days will be held Thursday and Friday, July 30 and 31, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.
Sudfeld and Ohio State's Joshua Perry will speak on behalf of the players in attendance at the 44th annual Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon, which begins at 11:30 a.m. and will showcase interviews with all 14 head coaches, and include speeches by Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany and Tournament of Roses president Mike Matthiessen.
The day begins with the Big Ten partnering with USA Football to put on its first free Kickoff Luncheon Youth Clinic. From 8:30-10 a.m. CT, USA Football staff will take approximately 120 boys and girls, kindergarten through eighth grade, through basic catching, passing, agility and defense drills.
Beginning at 10 a.m., fans in attendance will take part in an autograph session with the head coaches, while select players will participate in brief, live interviews highlighted by questions from fans on-site and through social media channels. Coaches and players will be available for a photo session around 11 a.m.
Rayner was recognized as IU's most improved player this spring by head coach Kevin Wilson. One season ago, he started seven times and appeared in all 12 games. The Largo, Fla., native recorded 12 tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Sudfeld, who earned a spot on the 2015 Maxwell Award Watch List, ranks second in program history in completion percentage (60.6), tied for second in 300-yard passing games (four), fifth in passing touchdowns (34), eighth in passing yardage (4,306) and completions (346), ninth in attempts (571) and 10th in total offense (4,377) in just 25 career games (14 starts).
The Modesto, Calif., product passed for 1,151 yards on 101-of-167 (60.5 percent) with six TDs, three picks and a 126.6 pass efficiency rating before he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the second quarter of game six at Iowa last year.
Spriggs started 28 consecutive games to begin his career and has made 34 starts in 35 games at left tackle. The Concord, Ind., native allowed just two sacks in 689 snaps and recorded 45 knockdowns as a honorable mention All-Big Ten performer for the third straight year in 2014.
Indiana set a program single-season record with 3,163 rushing yards. IU averaged 263.6 rushing yards per game (ninth nationally, third in the Big Ten) and 405.0 total yards (fifth in the Big Ten).
