ORLANDO – The final day of the 2015 USA Diving ATT National Championships saw Indiana senior Lacey Houser put on a strong performance and post an 11th place finish in the finals of the 3m springboard. That finish means Houser has qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials with the chance to earn a spot on the USA Diving Olympic team.
In the preliminary round, Houser got off to a great start with back-to-back dives that were awarded 60.20 and 61.50 points, respectively. After struggling on her third dive, she righted the ship and posted a score of 55.50 on her fourth dive en route to finishing seventh overall to advance to the semifinals.
Houser once again got off to a very strong start in the semifinals, opening with a score of 57.40 on her first dive – a forward 3 ½ somersault tuck. Her second dive yielded a score of 63.00 and put her in first place. When her third dive registered a score of 48, she was able to regroup and post two dives with scores in the 50s to finish fifth in the semifinals and qualify for the finals.
The script remained the same for Houser in the finals, as she began with a forward 3 ½ somersault tuck and received 54.60 points. Her best dive of the day would be her second dive of the finals after she registered a score of 70.50 on an inward 2 ½ somersault pike and took over first place. Unfortunately, her third dive of the finals proved to be her undoing, when her score of 16.50 dropped her to 14th place. She would recover over her final two attempts and climb up the standings to finish in 11th place.
