IU Rowing Informational Meetings Set
8/19/2015 7:15:00 PM | Women's Rowing
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's rowing team, fresh off their second straight appearance in the NCAA Championships, is holding informational meetings to allow those interested in trying out for the team to gather more information about the opportunity to be a varsity athlete at Indiana.
Head coach Steve Peterson and his staff will hold the meetings on two days, starting on Aug. 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the SRSC Auditorium. The other date is Aug. 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., also in the SRSC Auditorium.
For more information, email the staff at iurowing@indiana.edu.
A recent example of someone joining the team through these informational meetings is Meradith Dickensheets, who just completed her eligibility following the 2014-15 season. She joined the program as a novice but worked her way into the 1V8 boat by her junior year. She would go on to be named a First Team All-American her final two years, becoming the only IU rower to ever be named to the first team on two occasions. She helped lead the Hoosiers to a steady spot in the Top 25 polls each week and 11th place finishes at the NCAA Championships the past two seasons.
The program has been on the rise in recent years and has exploded onto the national scene the last two years. Peterson and his staff were named the National Head Coach and Staff of the Year in 2014 as the Hoosiers made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships. That was on the heels of the team placing fourth at the Big Ten Championships in 2014 and earning the program's first-ever medal in the 1V8 race.
