Vrooman, Snodgrass Win National Championships

SAN ANTONIO – On the first day of the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships, former Indiana standout Lindsay Vrooman won the national title in the 400 free, highlighting the IU contingent's day in the pool.
At the 2015 Canadian Swimming National Championships, rising senior and IU All-American Brooklynn Snodgrass tied for first in the 100 back when she touched the wall dead even with Ingrid Wilm in 1:01.31, allowing both swimmers to take home a gold medal.
Back at the USA National Championships, rising senior Haley Lips won the B final of the 400 free while 400 free relay team of Max Irwin, Blake Pieroni, Yianni Thermos and Hunter Hoffman posted a time of 3:23.14 to finish eighth and enter the IU long course record book with the third-fastest time in school history.
Zane Grothe, a former All-American at Auburn who now trains in Bloomington with the IU coaching staff, made it a sweep in the 400 free with his time of 3:45.98 good enough for first place.
Stephanie Marchuk also competed in the women's 400 free and posted a time of 4:14.48, which was among the top 24 times posted in the prelims of the event. And Max Irwin's time of 3:56.18 narrowly missed a spot in the finals on the men's side of the 400 free.
In the women's 200 IM, there were four current or incoming Hoosiers competing. The top time (2:17.29) came from incoming freshman Miranda Tucker while another incoming freshman – Lilly King – was just behind her at 2:18.69. Rising sophomore Sam Lisy touched the wall in 2:19.06 and rising junior Bailey Pressey came in at 2:23.61.
On the men's side, there were three current or former IU men's team members in the pool. In the end, rising senior Tanner Kurz posted the top time among the IU trio with a time of 1:02.07 while recent graduate Mike Hurley was next at 1:02.50. Cody Taylor, a rising junior, registered a time of 1:04.51.
Meanwhile, in Kazan, Russia, at the FINA World Championships, rising sophomore Kennedy Goss was part of the 4x200 meter relay team for Canada that placed 11th with a time of 7:57.15.
