Hoosiers Sweep Hokies

Junior Megan Tallman passes 2,000 career assists.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team kicked off the Indiana Invitational with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) win over Virginia Tech, a team that received votes in the national poll this week.
Junior Allison Hammond totaled 10 kills for the Hoosiers and junior Megan Tallman registered 33 assists, including passing 2,000 career kills.
It was senior Chanté George, who came out on fire in the opening set for Indiana with four kills on six swings. Indiana hit at a .320 efficiency in the first set and won convincingly, 25-18.
After a set two win, the Hoosiers (5-2) found themselves down 19-16 in the third set. Back-to-back kills by senior Amelia Anderson and a Virginia Tech hitting error evened the match 19-19.
Tied 20-20, junior Taylor Lebo served up an ace and two kills by George put Indiana up 23-21. The Hoosiers and Hokies traded the next two points to bring the score to 24-22.
Junior Kyndall Merritt rocketed a serve that send Virginia Tech pedaling backwards and forced Lindsey Owns into an illegal contact to give the Hoosiers the win.
Indiana continues play in the tournament tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. match against Bowling Green and a 7:00 p.m. match vs. Northern Arizona.
