Doyle Paces IU On First Day of Northern Intercollegiate

SUGAR GROVE, Illinois - The Indiana men's golf team opened the 2015-16 season on Saturday at the Northern Intercollegiate and posted a team score of 313 (+25) in round one. Sophomore Brendon Doyle led the Hoosiers with a round of 3-over par 75.
Round two was suspended due to darkness before all teams could finish the round.

Three IU players still have to finish their second round while two others were able to finish their second rounds.

Doyle followed up his 75 in round one with a 5-over par 77 in round two as he finished just before darkness set in. Individually, Doyle is in 39th place at 8-over par for the tournament

Senior Max Kollin opened with a 79 in his first round and appeared on his way to a lower score but a double bogey and a triple bogey derailed his round on the back nine. With three holes remaining in his second round, Kollin is 3-over par and has 10 pars on his scorecard through 15 holes.

Redshirt Freshman Jake Brown, making his collegiate debut for the Hoosiers after redshirting last year, started with a round of 79 to open the day. Brown started his round on the tenth hole and struggled on his way out, posting a 45 on his first nine. He quickly rebounded on his second nine with a pair of birdies on the second and third holes and logged a 34 on his way. In round two, the back nine once again caused some issues for Brown and he is 7-over with three holes left to complete his round.

Junior Andrew Havill registered a score of 81 in his first round before rebounding for a 3-over par round of 75 after closing with two birdies in his final three holes. His score of 156 leaves him in a tie for 55th with most of the field yet to finish round two.

Another junior, Keegan Vea, carded an 80 in round one and is 6-over par with three holes left in his second round.

Freshman Trevor Ranton, who is also making his college debut, is competing as an individual and posted two rounds of 82.

The tournament will resume at 8:00am ET on Sunday with a shotgun start to conclude round two. From there, the teams will continue play into the final round.
