Men's Golf Finishes 13th at Northern Intercollegiate

SUGAR GROVE, Illinois – On the final day of the 2015 Northern Intercollegiate, the Indiana men's golf team finished in 13th place and were led by junior Andrew Havill's score of 227 (+11) after he posted a 1-under round of 71 in round three on Sunday to finish tied for 29th individually.
Indiana sat in 14th place after their first round score of 313 on Saturday, but rallied to card a team score of 305 in round two and move up to 13th place as the teams had to complete round two Sunday morning.
Then in the final round, the Hoosiers once again lowered their team score, registering a 14-over par score of 302 and fell just one stroke shy of 12th place and three shots shy of a tie for 10th place.
Havill, a native of Carmel, Indiana, had the round of the tournament for the Hoosiers in round three, carding three birdies and two bogeys on his day. He posted birdies on both of the par 5s on the front nine and then posted birdie on the par 3 13th hole – a hole that had played over par during the first two rounds.
His score of 227 ((81-75-71, +11) is the third-best 54-hole tournament score of his career and the best since a 225 total at the NYX Hoosier Invitational in April 2014.
Sophomore Brendon Doyle began his final round with six consecutive pars before a bogey on his seventh hole and a birdie on his eighth hole saw him go out in Even par 36. But his second nine would prove to be a battle and would go on to finish with a score of 7 over par 79 in round three. For the tournament, his score of 231 (75-77-79, +15) left him in a tie for 45th.
Redshirt Freshman Jake Brown recorded the second-best score on the day by an IU golfer, posting a 3-over par 75 after going out in 4-over but rallying to come in with a 1-under 35 on his second nine. His total score for the tournament was 232 (79-78-75, +16) and put him in a tie for 50th.
Senior Max Kollin finished the tournament with a total score of 233 (79-75-79, +17) and tied for 53rd individually. Junior Keegan Vea logged his best round of the tournament in thie final round, carding a 5-over par 77 to give him a overall score of 238 (80-81-77, +22) and a tie for 66th.
Competing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Trevor Ranton finished with a round of 79 in his third round. That final round score gave him a overall score of 243 (82-82-79, +27) and left him in a tie for 72nd.
The Hoosiers will return to action next weekend at Olympia Fields County Club outside Chicago for the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, which runs Sept. 18-20.
