Indiana vs. Florida International
September 12, 2015
• Senior defensive end Nick Mangieri set up a pair of Indiana touchdowns, including the game-winner. Mangieri forced a fumble after recording his second sack of the season and the seventh of his career with 10:09 remaining. In the third quarter, he recovered the first fumble of his career.
• The first turnover set up Nate Sudfeld's second rushing TD and the second Sudfeld's 16-yard scoring strike to Mitchell Paige.
• Freshman defensive back Jameel Cook, Jr. sealed the Hoosiers victory with a 96-yard interception return with 3:58 remaining in the final stanza. Florida International faced a fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line in a 29-22 ballgame when Cook delivered his heroics. The return is tied for the fourth-longest in school history.
• Jordan Howard has now recorded 13 career 100-yard games and his eighth 150-yard game. He has rushed for at least 100 yards in six straight games dating back to last year. The junior finished with 159 yards on 27 carries (5.9 average). He added one reception for five yards.
• Sophomore Devine Redding carried the ball 16 times for 53 yards. Together, Howards and Redding have rushed for over 200 yards in back-to-back games.
• The Hoosiers have had a 100-yard rusher in 14 of their last 15 games dating back to last season. Indiana finished with 205 rush yards on 52 carries.
• In its season opener, Florida International limited Central Florida to 46 rushing yards on 30 attempts, a 1.5 average, with zero touchdowns.
• Nate Sudfeld collected 5- and 1-yard touchdowns, his second-career two-TD rushing game, and finished the evening 19-of-33 for 234 yards with one touchdown through the air. The senior now owns five career rushing scores.
• Sudfeld's touchdown pass moved him into the fourth spot on the all-time Hoosiers list.
• Redshirt sophomore linebacker Marcus Oliver recovered Mangieri's forced fumble, the first recovery of his career. Oliver forced a pair of fumbles in the season opener and in 16 career games he has contributed to six takeaways.
• Redshirt sophomore Rashard Fant had a game- and career-high four pass breakups. The cornerback also made four solo tackles in the game.
• The Hoosiers forced two fumbles for the second straight week and now have five takeaways in 2015. Indiana converted all three takeaways into touchdowns.
• IU did not allow any points in the third quarter for the second straight game.
• In the red zone, the Hoosiers were a perfect five-of-five. They converted three into touchdowns and two into field goals.
• Paige finished the contest with two catches for 31 yards and the 16-yard TD, the first of his career.
• Fifth-year senior tight end Michael Cooper caught three balls for 66 yards, both career-highs.
• Redshirt sophomore Griffin Oakes accounted for the Hoosiers first points with 35- and 27-yard field goals in the second quarter. He added a game-tying 40-yarder in the third and finished the ballgame converting three of his four attempts. Oakes is 5-of-6 on the season and 18-of-24 (75.0 percent) in his career. The Greenwood, Ind., native is one field goal away from entering Indiana's career top 10.
• True freshman cornerback Devonte Williams made the first start of his career.
• Wide receiver Ricky Jones, linebacker Clyde Newton, nose tackle Adarius Rayner and linebacker T.J. Simmons served as Indiana's game captains.
• The Hoosiers wore the two-tone numerical and Block I helmet.
• Indiana is 2-0 for the first time since 2012 and the second time under head coach Kevin Wilson.
• Tonight was the first meeting between the two programs.
