HANAHAN, S.C. – The Indiana women's golf team surged up the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round of the Powerade Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall Golf Club, finishing in eighth place after starting the day tied for 12th place.
As a team, IU posted a score of 297 in the final round, giving them a overall score of 893 (294-302-297; +29) for the tournament and leaving them one shot behind NC State for seventh and four shots behind Wake Forest in sixth.
The Hoosiers eighth place finish to open the season is their best 54-hole tournament finish to start a season since 2012-13, when they finished seventh at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico.
Individually, freshman Erin Harper ended up with overall score of 1-over par 217 (72-71-74; +1) for the tournament after a final round score of 2-over par 74. Her T12 finish gave her the best finish by an IU freshman in a 54-hole event since Elizabeth Tong (T8th) at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate on Oct. 10-11, 2011.
In Tuesday's final round, freshman Eva Domingo Graells had the round of the day for IU, registering a 1-over par score of 73. Her final round featured an eagle on the par 5 15th hole and two birdies, making her final overall score of 225 (74-78-73; +9) good for a tie for 40th place in her first collegiate tournament.
Also finishing in a tie for 40th at 9-over par for the tournament (73-77-75; 225) was senior Camille Chevalier. She started her round with seven pars and one birdie and one bogey over the first nine holes, but was tripped up with three bogeys on the second nine holes to post a score of 3-over par 75.
After struggling the first two rounds, junior Ana Sanjuan regrouped to post a 3-over par round of 75 on Tuesday to put her in a tie for 86th with an overall score of 236 (79-82-75; +20).
Sophomore Pear Siriko logged a final round score of 86, giving her a total score of 237 (75-76-86; +21) and a tie for 89th.
Next up for Indiana will be the East-West Match Play Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, which runs from Sept. 20-22.
