BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team travels west this weekend for the Northern Colorado Classic in Greeley, Colo.
The Hoosiers will matchup against Eastern Kentucky on Friday Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. ET before taking on Utah State (Sept. 19 at 12:00 p.m.) and Northern Colorado (Sept. 19 at 10:00 p.m.).
The Hoosiers are coming off a 3-0 weekend as they won the Indiana Invitational with three set wins against previously unbeaten Virginia Tech, Bowling Green and a five set thriller against Northern Arizona. Senior Amelia Anderson had 26 kills against the Lumberjacks and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. Seniors Courtney Harnish and Awele Nwaeze also were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
A Career Season
Senior Amelia Anderson is having a breakout season for the Hoosiers. After totaling 312 kills in 32 matches last season, Anderson is nearly half way there with 152 kills through just nine matches this season. Anderson ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten in total kills and seventh in kills per set (3.90) Among all NCAA DI players, Anderson ranks 30th in total kills and 64th in kill per set. Anderson is doing this while hitting at a .285 hitting percentage.
Comeback Kid
After undergoing back surgery during the summer, senior Awele Nwaeze is back and producing big numbers for the Hoosiers. Nwaeze, who was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Indiana Invitational totaled 15 kills and just one error on 27 swings (.519 hitting percentage) in the Hoosiers five set win over Northern Arizona to clinch the tournament title.
Career Milestone
Junior setter Megan Tallman recorded her 2,000th career assist in the Hoosiers win over Virginia Tech in the Indiana Invitational. Tallman now has 2,054 assists, which ranks ninth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career assists. Tallman had a career-high 60 assists in the Hoosiers win over Northern Arizona in the Indiana Invitational.
Delta Zeta Classic
The Hoosiers went 2-1 at the Delta Zeta Classic in San Marcos, Texas. Senior Amelia Anderson was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second straight weekend and passed 800 career kills. Senior libero and captain Courtney Harnish went over the 800-career digs mark as well.
Blue Raider Bash Awards
Seniors Amelia Anderson and Courtney Harnish were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Blue Raider Bash. Anderson led the Hoosiers with 67 kills, including a career-high 26 in the Hoosiers opening match victory against Bowling Green. Harnish paced the Hoosiers defense with 60 digs (4.0/set) while also registering 19 assists and two aces.
On the Airwaves
This season Lucas Corley is the voice of IU volleyball. For both road matches and home matches Corley will have audio broadcasts and select BTN Plus matches. Lucas is also the host of the weekly coaches show with IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan.
