IU Perfect on Final Day of Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's tennis went unbeaten in singles on the final day of the 2015 Hoosier Classic as IU went 7-0 on Sunday.

Three Hoosiers went 3-0 in singles for the entire weekend in Paula Gutierrez, Madison Appel and Sarah Baron.

Gutierrez downed Marquette's Silvia Ambrosio on Sunday, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) as Appel defeated Paula Tormos, also from Marquette, in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Baron kept her weekend unblemished winning over Samantha Perry of Cincinnati, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Sarah McLean went to a third set to defeat Western Michigan's Olivia Myers, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). Freshman Natalie Whalen gave up just one game in her win over Cleveland State's Mathilde Orange, 6-0, 6-1.

Other winners for Indiana included Kim Schmider and Danielle Wolf. Schmider defeated Marquette's Courtney Hebard, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7), and Wolf took down WMU's Ella Perinovic, 6-1, 6-1.

Indiana will next take to the courts this fall at Vanderbilt for a tournament on Oct. 23-25.
