Hoosiers Fall Against UTSA

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The Indiana volleyball team couldn't overcome 31 hitting errors and dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 19-25) match to UTSA on Friday at Texas State.
Senior Amelia Anderson led the Hoosiers with 14 kills. Junior Megan Tallman tallied 33 assists and Taylor Lebo registered 14 digs.
The Roadrunners hit .333 in the opening set and seized early momentum with a 25-18 victory in set one.
In set two the Hoosiers (3-2) limited UTSA to a 0.81 hitting percentage and caught fire on offense with 14 kills and three errors in the set. Anderson provided the Hoosiers with six kills and junior Mallory Waggoner, playing in her first match for the Hoosiers had four kills in the set.
In set three the Hoosiers struggled offensively hitting for a negative percentage and seven kills. UTSA took the third set, 25-19 and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set Indiana was determined to get back in the match and got out to a 3-1 lead on a block by senior Awele Nwaeze and junior Allison Hammond. UTSA responded with a 9-2 run and went up 10-5 in the set. The Roadrunners lead grew to nine at 20-11, before the Hoosiers went on a run of their own and cut the deficit to five at 20-15. UTSA scored the next two points and Indiana ran out of time and fell 25-19 in the set.
Up next the Hoosier return tomorrow for a 5:00 p.m. ET match against host Texas State.
