Track and Field Back in Action
1/20/2016 4:31:00 PM | Track and Field
After consecutive dual meet weekends, the Track and Field team will partake in two separate invitational style meets. The majority of the team will stay home to compete in the Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Many of the field athletes will head south to Lexington, Kentucky for the Rod McCravy Memorial.
Coach Ron Helmer is excited to see how his team will stack up in a couple of very competitive meets. "Everyone should be settled back into their work routine and be ready to start posting some high level marks in most areas. Ideally, we will come out of the weekend with some more national level marks that will potentially qualify for the NCAA championships, as well as a number of personal bests."
Indiana's men's team will try to continue its hot start after beating Tennessee and Purdue handily in two prior dual meets. Daniel Kuhn followed up his Co-Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honor with a #GoIU Student Athlete of the Week honor for his winning performance in the 600m run, while Adrian Mable turned in the best performance of his career in the 60m hurdles against Purdue.
The women's team will look to continually improve. The young team had several strong performances in the Purdue dual, but came up short on the scoreboard. Sydney Clute took first in the pole vault with a new career best mark of 4.11m. That mark is good for fourth place on Indiana's all-time list. Kendell Wiles posted the third best time in the Big Ten Conference with a 1:33.80 effort in the 600m run.
