Day One of the Gladstein Invitational Comes to a Close
The first day of competition saw many Hoosiers climb up the indoor record books. As Coach Ron Helmer predicted, several other athletes set new season best marks.
Sydney Clute tied with Sophie Gutermuth, competing unattached, in the pole vault with a mark of 4.26m. That mark is a career best for Clute and moves her into second place in school history. She also ranks first in the Big Ten Conference and seventh nationally. Michelle Adeniyi finished third in the Pentathlon with a score of 3,372. She won the shot put during the event.
Kendell Wiles won the 400m dash with a season best time of 56.04. Brittany Thomas won her heat and clinched a spot in the 60m finals with a time of 7.57. Maya Caudle also claimed a spot in the finals by running a season best time of 7.78 in the prelims.
Brianna Johnson topped her season best time by running a 9:30.83 in the 3,000m run. That time ranks her as tenth in the nation. Corinne Cominator, Katherine Receveur, and Olivia Hippensteel all turned in season best performances in the mile run. Cominator took third in a highly competitive field.
Zach Bray and Adrian Mable both advanced to the 60m hurdles with times of 8.08 and 8.18 respectively. Bray's time is a career best time and moves him into a tie for fourth place in program history. Cornelius Strickland qualified for the 60m finals by winning his heat. Marco Burkert finished second in the 400m dash with a season best time of 48.62.
Kyle Duvall finished the 3,000m run with a time of 8:03.90, the fifth best time nationally. Owen Skeete took second place in the mile, finishing with a season best time of 4:08.53. In Lexington, Indiana's DMR team of Matt Schwartzer, Markevious Roach, Daniel Kuhn, and Rorey Hunter took first place with a time of 9:41.10. Paul Galas finished third in the high jump.
