Hoosiers Fall in Season Opener at North Carolina

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 50 Indiana men's tennis team fell 4-1 against No. 10 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., Saturday in the ITA Kickoff.
Up next the Hoosiers battle No. 35 Drake, who lost to No. 40 NC State in the other matchup in Chapel Hill as part of the ITA Kickoff. That match will be played tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
North Carolina took control early by winning 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Seniors Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk battled the No. 1 doubles team in the country to a 6-4 defeat to give North Carolina a 1-0 lead in the match.
North Carolina won the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches in straight sets, but Monette put the Hoosiers on the board with a 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. The Tar Heels put the match away with a 7-6, 6-1 win at the No. 3 singles position.
