
Hoosiers Fall Against Drake, 4-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 50 Indiana men's tennis team dropped their second match in North Carolina, 4-2 against No. 35 Drake as part of the ITA Kickoff Opening Weekend on Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Raheel Manji and Afonso Salgado gave the Hoosiers a win at No. 3 doubles and Drake answered with a win at No. 1 doubles to send the doubles point decision to No. 2 doubles. The match went to a tiebreak and although the Hoosiers led 4-1, they could not close it out and Drake won the tiebreak 7-4 to win the match and take the doubles point.
Senior Sam Monette put the Hoosiers on the board with his second win of the dual match season with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles.
Drake took the next two singles matches to go up 3-1, but junior Matthew McCoy gave the Hoosiers another point with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win at the No. 5 position.
Freshman Antonio Cembellin led at No. 4, 3-2 in the third set, but before that match could finish, Drake got the deciding victory at No. 3 with a 6-4 win in the third set to clinch the singles match and overall dual match.
Up next the Hoosiers return home to host a doubleheader on Saturday Jan. 30. Indiana will host VCU at 11:00 a.m. ET and battle Marquette at 6:00 p.m. ET.
