Track and Field Attacks the Program Record Books

Daniel Kuhn continues to leave his mark on the indoor record books as he placed second in the 800m run with a new school record time of 1:48.13. Matt Schwartzer also climbed up the record board with a 7:59.95 in the 3,000m run. He now stands at eighth all-time. Rorey Hunter finished fourth in the event with a time of 8:06.32.
The Hoosiers found great success in the Heptathlon. Dylan Anderson scored 5,616 points in a second place effort. That point total is the second best in school history. Stephen Keller placed third with 5,471 points, good for fourth all time. Chase Pacheco finished fifth with a score of 5,154, seventh place in program history. Finally, Andrew Huber placed sixth with 5,069 points, good for eighth on the all-time list.
Adrian Mable took third in the 60m hurdle final with a time of 8.07. Cornelius Strickland finished first among collegiate athletes, third overall, in the 60m finals this morning with a time of 6.86 seconds. Strickland carried that momentum into a winning 200m dash effort of 21.49. Marco Burkert won his heat, and finished fourth overall, in the 600m run with a time of 1:22.38.
Jordan Huntoon also took third in the fast section of the 800m run with a season best time of 1:53.02. Adam Wallace won his heat of the 800m run with a time of 1:55.48, his best time this year.
Indiana's 4x800m relay team of Kyle Duvall, Joe Murphy, Connor Martin, and Eric Claxton crossed the line first with a time of 7:40.97. That time ranks as the fifth best time in the nation.
Brittany Thomas finished third overall in the 200m dash with a time of 24.97. She also tied for third in the 60m finals with a time of 7.63. Sydney Anderson finished third in the 600m run with a time of 1:35.47. Taylor Williams won her heat, and finished sixth overall in the event with a 1:36.39.
Olivia Hippensteel took third in the fast section of the 800m run with a time of 2:13.96. Taylor Wiley took second in the fast heat of the 600m with a time of 1:33.42, edging out her previous season best.
Indiana's 4x800m relay team of Corinne Cominator, Brenna Calder, Brianna Johnson, and Kellie Davis cruised to the victory with a time of 9:03.60. That time puts them in the top ten nationally for the event. The 4x400m relay team of Riley Egbula, Williams, Anderson, and Kendell Wiles placed second with a time of 3:44.17.
After the meet Coach Ron Helmer said he was happy to see the risk-taking and hard work of his young team start to show positive effects.
Indiana will be back in action on Friday as host of the Indiana Relays Weekend. The meet will cover both Friday and Saturday. Many top teams such as Alabama, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, and Tulane will make for a great weekend of competition.
