Track and Field Hosts the Indiana University Relays
The Hoosier Track and Field team will be back in action this weekend as they play host to the Indiana University Relays. They will compete against members of twelve other schools including: Alabama, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Purdue.
Coming off of the Gladstein Invitational Head Coach Ron Helmer was encouraged to see some of his younger athletes take some risks in their events. With only a handful of meets remaining before the Big Ten Championships he is hoping to see continued growth and risk taking by his team.
Sydney Clute posted a new career best mark, and the second best mark in school history, when she cleared the bar at 4.26m in the pole vault. Kendell Wiles continued her strong season by winning the 400m dash with a season best time of 56.04. She also teamed up with Riley Egbula, Sydney Anderson, and Taylor Williams to place second in the 4x400m relay.
Daniel Kuhn finds himself in the record book again after his strong weekend. He set the new school record time of 1:48.13 in the 800m run. That run helped earn him his second Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honor this season. Kuhn was also part of the winning distance medley relay team that took first place. Markevious Roach, Matt Schwartzer, and Rorey Hunter rounded out the team that holds the fastest time in the country at 9:10.41.
Action will begin on Friday, January 29 with the women's long jump and 60m hurdle trials at 6:00PM. Day one will come to a close following the women's distance medley relay, which is set to start at 9:10PM. The meet will resume on Saturday with the women's weight throw and mile run that will begin at 11:00AM. Concluding the meet will be the men's 4x400m relay at approximately 2:20PM.
