IU Begins Dual Play Topping Miami (OH)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's tennis began dual play with a 4-3 victory over Miami (OH) on Sunday inside the IU Tennis Center. Senior Sarah McLean clinched the win for the Hoosiers.
IU started things by taking the doubles point as Kim Schmider and Natalie Whalen took down MU's Hannah Shteyn and Anzhelika Shapovalova in the No. 2 match, 6-1. Danielle Wolf and Paula Gutierrez followed with a victory at No. 3 over Ana Rajkovic and Andreea Badileanu, 6-3.
In singles, Miami evened the match at one point each with a win at No. 4, but Stephanie Smith regained the lead back for Indiana with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over MU's Anastasiia Vasiukhina. The RedHawks would tie it again with a No. 1 win by Shapovalova over IU's Gutierrez.
Madison Appel then put the Hoosier in front 3-2 as she downed Andreea Badileanu, 7-6, 7-5, at No. 2. McLean then clinched it with a straight-set win in the No. 3 position as she defeated Shteyn, 6-4, 6-4.
Indiana's match with Western Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 24 has been cancelled and instead of a double-header, the Hoosiers will play only Butler beginning at 11 a.m. ET inside the IU Tennis Center.
