The former OHSAA State Champion joins the Hoosiers for the remainder of the 2016 season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana wrestling coach Duane Goldman has announced that Cole Jones (Oxford, Ohio) has transferred to Indiana from the United States Military Academy. He has enrolled in classes for the 2016 spring semester, and has already begun cutting his teeth in coach Goldman's wrestling room.
Prior to joining the Hoosiers, Jones, a heavyweight on Army's wrestling squad, also played as a linebacker for the Black Knights in their 2015-16 season.
Jones was a decorated wrestler at the prep level in his four seasons under coach Tom Wynn at St. Xavier High School (Cincinnati, Ohio). At 220 lbs., Jones won the Ohio State Championship in 2015 after a perfect 41-0 senior season. He was also named the Greater Catholic League (GCL) Wrestler of the Year in 2015.
The Oxford, Ohio native had an outstanding senior season, but showed a consistent ability to compete with the best throughout his prep career. Jones received All-GCL honors in all four seasons of his career, including three first team selections. In his junior season, Jones ranked 12th in the state and fourth in the district on his way to a fourth-place finish at the Ohio State Championships.
In addition to wrestling, Jones was a standout linebacker for St. Xavier, earning letters in all four years with the Bombers' football team.
Cole Jones is the son of D.J. and Jamie Jones. He has two sisters, Brittany and Kara.
