IU Women’s Golf Hits Links for Final Time in Fall Season at Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the last time in the fall season, the Indiana Women's Golf team will travel to the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV Sunday through Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The three-round, par-72 tournament will kick off with a shotgun start each day with Sunday's opening 18 holes starting at 3 p.m. ET.

HISTORY AT LAS VEGAS SHOWDOWN
The Hoosiers have previously been successful at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, as it posted the lowest three-round total in program history at Boulder Creek in 2015 when it shot a combined 847. It bested the previous three-round score by 13 strokes (860) and IU's final round of 280 was also the team's second-best round in school history. IU won the event in 2012, with Elizabeth Tong taking home medalist honors.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers haven't hit the links since Oct. 2-4 when it competed in the Powerade Cougar Classic. Junior Alix Kong led IU with a tied for 27th place finish (217) while the Hoosiers finished tied for 19th. Their combined three-round score of 897 was the lowest score of the season while their second-round finish of 297 is tied for the second lowest in a round this season.
KONG AND SANJUAN STEP UP
In the absence of top returner sophomore Erin Harper in the last two tournaments, senior Ana Sanjuan and junior Alix Kong have both stepped up for the Hoosiers. Both are tied for the team low with a 73.22 average through nine rounds of play. Each have posted top-10 finishes with Kong tied for seventh at the Mary Fossum Invitational while Sanjuan also tied for seventh overall at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Mary Fossum Invitational.
THIRD PLACE AT MARY FOSSUM
The Hoosiers posted their best team finish with a third place showing at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State at Forest Akers West Sept. 24-25. Junior Alix Kong and senior Ana Sanjuan tied for seventh place finishes (222, +6). It marked the duo's first top 10 finishes of the season.
THREE COMPETE AT CARDINAL CLASSIC
Three individuals saw some action this week as redshirt senior Paige Crafton, redshirt freshman Carolina Garrett and freshman Emma Fisher took part in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State. Garrett, in her first appearance after sitting out last season, finished in a tie for 27th
HOOSIERS FINISH SEVENTH IN FIRST TIME OUT
The 2016-17 campaign kicked off on Sept. 12-13 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. where the Hoosiers posted a seventh place overall finish. Senior Ana Sanjuan shot 1-over par to lead her team with a tied for 7th place finish (72-75-70, 217). Sophomore Alix Kong also finished in the top 15, as she finished 4-over par (71-74-75, 220) for a T-11th finish.
UP NEXT
IU picks back up in 2017 when it travels to the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. hosted by Wisconsin to open up the spring season.
