VERO BEACH, Florida – The final round of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate saw the Hoosiers record their second-best team score for a single round this season (292) and move up one spot to finish 14th with a total score of 879.
"As a team, we had some opportunities to post some lower scores today," head coach Mike Mayer said. "But we were not able to take advantage of those chances to move up the leaderboard. Individually, Andrew Havill continued to lead our team and played a solid tournament this week, finishing inside the top 30 once again."
Andrew Havill closed out the tournament with a 1-under par 71, leaving him in a tie for 28th and score of 216. It marks the fifth straight tournament this season where Havill has finished inside the top 30. Havill's final round featured four birdies – all on the back nine – and three bogeys.
The top IU performance in Tuesday's final round belonged to Jake Brown, who posted a 3-under 69 to jump nearly 20 spots on the leaderboard and finish tied for 35th with a score of 217. Brown's final round 69 was the first round in the 60's by an IU golfer since Brown turned in a final round 62 last year at the Loyola Intercollegiate on March 1, 2016.
Freshman Brock Ochsenreiter used an eagle and two birdies on his way to a final round 74 and a total score of 224 over the three rounds to earn a share of 59th place.
Keegan Vea finished the tournament tied for 71st after a final round 78 put his overall score at 228. And junior Brendon Doyle finished in 73rd position after a 79 in the final round gave him a score of 231.
The next tournament for the Hoosiers will be the Big Ten Match Play Championship at the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, on Feb. 10-11.
