Hoosiers Fall at No. 3 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Indiana volleyball team had an excellent opportunity to win the first set, but fell in three sets on the road at No. 3 Nebraska (23-25, 13-25, 17-25) on Friday at the Devaney Center.
Sophomore Elizabeth Asdell led the Hoosiers (12-6, 1-4) with nine kills on 16 attempts for a .312 hitting percentage. Redshirt freshman Kendall Beerman led Indiana in digs with eight and freshman Victoria Brisack led the Hoosiers with 25 assists.
The opening set featured 15 tied and seven lead changes and the teams traded points back and fourth. The Hoosiers started the match with a service ace from Brisack and trailed by one point at the media timeout, 15-14.
Nebraska (13-1, 4-1) went up 16-14 but the Hoosiers responded with two straight points, which included a kill from senior Allison Hammond to tie it, 16-16.
The Hoosiers and Cornhuskers stayed close and Indiana held ties with Nebraska at 22-22 and 23-23, but an Indiana attack error and a Nebraska ace gave the Cornhuskers the first set, 25-23.
After winning the second set, Nebraska opened up a 16-9 lead on the Hoosiers in set three. The Hoosiers came back with a 4-0 run ignited by two kills from Asdell.
The Hoosiers kept it within three at 18-15 on a kill from Brisack, but Nebraska used a 7-2 scoring run to end the set and win the match in three sets.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Iowa City, Iowa, where they will take on the Hawkeyes Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
