11/12/2016 9:32:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team celebrated senior night, but couldn't come up with a victory as they fell in three sets against No. 1 Nebraska (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) on Saturday at University Gym.
Senior Jazzmine McDonald led the Hoosiers (16-13, 5-11 Big Ten) with six kills and hit .308 for the match. Senior Mallory Waggoner also posted six kills and added three digs. Senior setter Megan Tallman posted 17 assists and senior libero Taylor Lebo tallied 12 digs.
Tallman moved over 3,600 career assists and now has 3,604, the school record for career assists in the rally scoring era.
Lebo, who now has 1,106 career digs has reached double figures in digs in 19 matches this season and ranks eighth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career digs.
Senior Allison Hammond tallied four kills and added two digs.
Nebraska (24-1, 15-1 in the Big Ten) came out firing in the first set as they hit at a .448 hitting percentage in the opening set. The Cornhuskers hit .365 for the match compared to a .055 hitting percentage for Indiana.
The Hoosiers played in front of their biggest home crowd of the season as 1,412 people packed into University Gym.
After the match each of the Hoosiers five seniors spoke to the crowd and thanked their teammates, family, staff and crowd for their support.
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan has said this is a special senior class.
"They are a great class," she said. "They came in with a mission to make the program go forward and I think they have in many ways. I think towards the end of the season you can see them playing like seniors and acting like seniors and I think that is a really good thing. I have enjoyed being around them. They each bring a unique perspective and personality that has been very fun."
The Hoosiers will have one final chance to play in front of their home crowd as they host Purdue on Wednesday Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. That match will be a whiteout and fans are encouraged to wear white to the match.
