By The Numbers: Hoosiers Handle Hope In Exhibition

A look at at last night's 98-65 exhibition win over Hope College...
IU improved to 15-0 in exhibition games under Tom Crean. Since exhibition games against smaller Division schools began in 2004-05, IU is 22-0.
The Hoosiers shot 58.6 from the field and 46.2 from three-point range. IU enters the season with a national-best 5-year mark of shooting 47.8 from the floor and 40.2 from 3-point range. IU was 3rd in the country in field goal percentage (50.2) and 5th in 3-point field goal percentage (41.6).
IU had 22 assists on 34 field goal attempts (64.7%) and were led by junior Josh Newkirk who had seven assists and just one turnover.
Ten players saw at least nine minutes of action. Sophomore's OG Anunoby and Thomas Bryant led the way at 27 minutes.
The Hoosiers, who have led the NCAA in 3-point field goals made per game (9.6) over the last two years, hit 12 in the exhibition. Anunoby led the team with 4 treys.
IU won the battle of the boards, 51-32. Sophomore Juwan Morgan had 12, Bryant added nine and freshman De'Ron Davis contributed seven in just nine minutes, six on the offensive end.
Freshman Devonte Green led IU with 17 points in 13 minutes of play. He hit seven of nine field goals and both of his long distance calls. He also led the team with two steals. His 17 points were the fourth highest by a freshman in an exhibition opener. (Pritchard, 20 vs. Anderson; Watford, 19 vs. Grace; Verdell Jones, 18 vs. Anderson.
Anunoby had 16 points and four rebounds and made six of his nine shots.
Bryant had 15 points and added three assists. His season high last year in assists was three against Nebraska.
Junior James Blackmon, Jr., played his first game since last December and had 15 points. He was five of six from the field and two of three from long range.
Junior Robert Johnson had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. When he was in the lineup during his 21 minutes, the Hoosiers outscored the Dutchmen, 60-16 for a +44 impact. Newkirk was second on the team with a +27.
Freshmen Curtis Jones had seven points, two boards and two assists in his first career action.
The Hoosiers five guards (Blackmon, Jr., Newkirk, Johnson, Green and Jones) shot 61.2% from the field (19 of 31) and 50 percent from three-point range (8 of 16). They also combined for 15 assists and just seven turnovers.
Sophomore transfer Zach McRoberts started and played 13 minutes. The Carmel native came to IU from Vermont. He is a walk-on.
The Hoosiers will host Bellarmine in an exhibition game on Saturday at 7 p.m. IU beat them last year, 72-61. The Knights are the preseason #1 team in Division II and will play at Cincinnati on Thursday night. IU also beat them 101-64 in a 2004 exhibition game.
