PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Elizabeth Asdell and freshman Deyshia Lofton posted double digit kills and the Hoosiers picked up a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-18, 29-27) at Rutgers on Sunday at College Avenue Gym.
Asdell tallied 12 kills and hit .750 for the match and Lofton added 10 kills and hit .643 for the match.
Senior Taylor Lebo collected 16 digs as she moved in sixth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career digs with 1,143. Lebo has tallied double digit digs in 21 matches this season.
The Hoosiers (17-14, 6-12 Big Ten) opened up a 13-8 lead in the first set to force Rutgers into a timeout. Freshman Deyshia Lofton tallied five kills in the opening set and the Hoosiers hit .550 to win the first set, 25-14.
In the second set Indiana picked up where they left off as they opened up a 6-0 lead. The Hoosiers registered 17 kills in the second set and won the set, 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Asdell tallied six kills on eight attempts in the third set and the Hoosiers as a team had 19 kills in the set. For the match Indiana averaged 16 kills per set.
Rutgers showed fight in the third set and it went to extra points. The Hoosiers fought off five match points from Rutgers and in the end Indiana claimed a 29-27 win in the third set to win the match.
The Hoosiers hit .326 for the match and held Rutgers to a .108 hitting percentage.
Up next the Hoosiers finish the regular season with road matches at Maryland on Friday Nov. 25 and at Ohio State on Saturday Nov. 26.
