Indiana Swimming Ready for Two Meets this Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's and women's swimming and diving team will have a busy week ahead, as members of the team will be participating in the USA Swimming Winter Nationals, while others will be swimming in the Miami (OH) Invitational.
The majority of the Hoosier swimmers will be at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. The meet gets underway on Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
Psych sheets, event order, timelines and meet information for the AT&T Winter National Championships can be found at USASwimming.org.
The rest of the IU men's and women's swimmers will be participating in the Miami (OH) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. That meet gets underway on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
King Wins Golden Goggle Award
Lilly King was a big winner at the 2016 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Awards at the New York Marriott Marquis on Nov. 21, taking home the award for Breakout Performer of the Year. In her Olympic debut, the Evansville, Ind. native won Team USA's first Olympic gold medal in the women's 100m breaststroke since 2000 in an Olympic record 1:04.93 and added a second gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay.
King wasn't the only Hoosier nominated on the night, as IU alum Cody Miller was also up for Breakout Performer of the Year after winning a bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke and a gold medal in the 4x100 medley relay in Rio. IU head swimming coach Ray Looze was one of six nominated for Coach of the Year after serving as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Four Hoosiers Earn Weekly Big Ten Honors
On the women's side, Lilly King was named the Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Week, while Taylor Pamplin was named Diver of the Week. For the IU men, Blake Pieroni earned the same was named Swimmer of the Week, while James Connor was named Diver of the Week.
Hoosiers in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25
In the third CSCAA/TYR Top 25 released on Nov. 22, the Indiana men were ranked No. 8 in the nation, while the IU women came in at No. 12.
In the first CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll released on Oct. 26, the Indiana men's swimming and diving team was ranked No. 1 in the nation after sweeping both Texas and Florida to start the season. The women's team was ranked No. 12 in the country.
IU Sends 11 to Rio Olympics, Winning Seven Medals
The Indiana Swimming and Diving program sent 13 swimmers, divers and coaches to the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics – James Connor, alumna Amy Cozad, Marwan Elkamash, Kennedy Goss, Michael Hixon, Ali Khalafalla, Lilly King, alum Cody Miller, Jessica Parratto, Blake Pieroni and Anze Tavcar. Drew Johansen served as the head coach of USA diving, while Ray Looze was an assistant coach for USA Swimming.
At the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, the IU swimmers and divers won a total of seven medals – four golds, one silver and two bronze. Lilly King headlined the group with two gold medals, while Cody Miller won gold and bronze. Blake Pieroni earned a gold medal as a member of Team USA's 4x100 freestyle relay team, junior Kennedy Goss earned a bronze medal as a member of Team Canada's 4x200 freestyle relay team and junior diver Michael Hixon won silver in the men's 3m synchronized springboard.

The freshman broke every record in the event with her historic swim – the American, NCAA, NCAA Meet, U.S. Open, Indiana school, Big Ten and Georgia Tech Pool records – and owns all of the aforementioned records in both the 100 and 200 breast. In total, King recorded an impressive four All-America honors at her first NCAA Championships.
